COMPANY STRUCTURE AND THE ALERTING HIERARCHY

When a new company structure is built, it is comprised 5 different levels. The Company root, region, sub-region, site and location (although location is not mandatory). Alerting ties into this structure by giving the user the control as to who receives what alerts at each level.

Alerting can be setup in two ways:

  1. Hierarchical
  2. Targeted

The Hierarchical method allows you to assign the user once at a top tier level, more on that later, and have that user inherited at every layer beneath. For example:  If your company has a single observation manager across all sites, you could assign this user at company level.

The Targeted method allows you to assign different users at each tier level.  Thereby giving you ability to specifically target certain users at certain tiers.

Remember that the alerting assignments are hierarchical,  If you assign a user at company level, alerts of the assigned type will be sent to that user regardless of where in the company they are generated.

The following graphic shows each level and how alerting flows down the tree.

Company Hierarchy

Following is a sample company structure hierarchy:

With this structure in mind you can assign users at the ‘Marathon’ (company) level only if you wish. This means that each level underneath and including Marathon will have the same users assigned and regardless of where the alert was generated, those users would receive the alert.

Conversely, you could set different users at Sandgate, MT Thorley, Gunnedah and Moorebank, thereby specifically targeting your alerts.
